Serving the South, Carolina Style!

There are many things we never have too much of in the South and one is serving pieces! We love to entertain for friends and family, which means ALL the cousins!!!  It is all about the details! I am excited to see all the wonderful serving pieces by Beatriz Ball arrive at Mears!  Beatriz Ball is a wonderful collection and the perfect wedding, shower or birthday gift! I also love several new Mud Pie pieces! The artichoke salad servers and the Ruffles collection measuring spoons and casserole dishes! We southerners love a casserole so why not serve it in a beautiful dish!

I recommend one of my families favorite recipes,
North Carolina Sausage and Grits Casserole!

2 cups water
1/2 teaspoon salt
4 cups grated cheddar cheese
4 eggs, beaten
1 cup milk
1/2 teaspoon dried thyme
1/4 teaspoon garlic powder
2 lbs sausage, cooked, drained and crumbled (we use hot Jimmy Dean hot variety)

Bring water and salt to boil. Stir in grits. Return to boil, reduce heat, then cook for 4 minutes.

In large bowl combine grits and cheese and stir until cheese is melted. I like to add Texas Pete!
Stir in cold milk, thyme, and garlic powder. Mix well.
 Stir in eggs, mixing well.
 Stir in sausage.
Pour in 13 X 9 inch pan. Cover and refrigerate overnight.
Remove from refrigerator and let stand 15 minutes. Bake at 350 degrees for 50-55 minutes.
