Carolina Farmin'

I love keeping up with Small Farm Marketing and I agree with Wendy Perry,   I am super excited but also very jealous of Wilmington right now!  Carolina Farmin' is a straight from the farm fresh market opening in Wilmington where you'll find only LOCAL produce, beef, seafood, poultry, baked goods!  They will also offer natural and organic products and grocery staples!  The Grand Opening is August 4-8th! Ecoaccents!

Ecoaccents is on One Kings Lane today!  An awesome North Carolina company founded by Laura Allen of Raleigh!  Ecoaccents items prove to be both stylish and friendly to our dear Earth!  These are some of my favorite items, the happy bottom bag and the burlap pillows!

NC Puppy Portraits!

I love looking up North Carolina in Southern Livings Made by Southern Hands section!  I am just crazy about the John W. Golden digital 'Puppy Portraits" artwork featured in the August issue.  I think they are super cute!  John W. Golden is from Wilmington North Carolina!
 Of course, my favorite is the Lab!

SMS!

Some weekends are so filled with fun, family and friends that you truly do not want the weekend to end!  I loved being with fellow Saint Mary's alumni on Friday night!  It is wonderful to see smiles that reflect the affection we all feel for Saint Mary's! I am thankful for the many attending who have led the crusade to continue providing the same incredible experience Saint Mary's has been providing young women for almost 170 years!

Summer Harvest!

Nothing inspires me to cook more than fresh veggies straight from a North Carolina garden! I love seeing photos from friends summer harvest!  Right now we have an abundance of squash!  A new favorite is the squash fritters recipe from Our State Magazine!  My grandmothers cast iron skillet fries the perfect fritter!

A simple tomato sandwich is always a hit in most NC homes too! The only debate is usually which mayo is best, Dukes or Hellman's!  I am not sure where Miracle Whip came from but I have never seen it in a true southern kitchen and it certainly does not belong on a fresh tomato sandwich!  When straight off the vine I could eat one just like an apple!

Almost Heaven!

Yesterday was an "Almost Heaven" boat day!  The water was crystal clear here on the "Crystal Coast"!  I tried my best to capture the beauty through my camera lens but never does the camera do justice!  The only thing we were missing were our floats!  It was a glorious day as is today!
If you have not already visited the Carolina Coast, these pics should do the trick!!!  If you decide to visit this weekend you can attend the 5th Annual Crab Cake Cook-off at the NC Maritime Museum!

Fresh and Friendly!

I love this time of year when everything is fresh right out of the garden!  The only thing I can think of better than cooking fresh local produce is purchasing one of  Mindy's many homemade creations right out of The Friendly Market Kitchen!  The actual food "to go" reminds me of one of my favorite Raleigh spots from long ago named Simple Pleasures!  Not having to cook yet serving one of their divine treats is also a "Simple Pleasure"!!
 "Pie" night at my house is always easy!   Mindy's chicken pie, tomato pie and a peach pie.  I usually throw in a mixed green salad to add some color to the dinner pie plate.  I think homemade ice cream with the peach pie is perfection for any guest and any beach bum who does not want to cook on a Summer Funday!
I grew up always having garden veggies at the farm so I especially love the convenience of Quinn's Produce at The Friendly Market when I am able to pull myself away from the beach this time of year to cook for friends and family!
We also love The Plant Stand! They have everything we need in full bloom!  Just as the market promises everyone is Friendly! Don't forget to check out all the Vendors! There is something for everyone!

BARTA!

As I was saying Sunday, it is Barta time!  This year Captain Tred Barta's big news is The Barta Boys and Girls Clubs Billfish Tournament is adding an Inshore Tournament, so come one come all to the Beaufort Docks this Thursday the 14th!  This is such a great way to get in the tournament action by land or sea!
It is truly ALL about the kids!!  I love this 2010 first sailfish video!  I am sure this kid is hooked for life!  I will never forget my first sailfish and the thrill of witnessing three on at the same time! Very exciting for even the most amature angler!

Kayaking in Carolina!

Ever since the first Kayak down Fishing Creek, I have a new interest in the peaceful pastime! I just had to share these kayaking photos taken by my cousin in tidal creeks and intracoastal waterway in surf city on topsail island! 
Charles is happy to give you a guided tour at Herring's Outdoor Sports 701 N. New River Dr. Surf City, NC.  Herring's Outdoor Sports is celebrating their 47th year!
This photo was taken during a two day trip through the Black River and into the Cape Fear River. They left from Leland, outside of Wilmington, into downtown by the waterfront!  Not your regular tour with camping involved but very cool pic with the battleship in the background!

Summer Jam!

This has been a wonderful July 4th vacation week on the Carolina Coast!  We had a great time with family and friends!  The 3rd Annual Summer Jam with the Tams was the perfect end to a perfect week! I will  post on schedule this week but thought I would check in to report the 3rd Annual Summer Jam with the Tams was a success!!  All proceeds go to The Boys and Girls Clubs of Coastal Carolina!

I love The Tams painting by local artist, Jen Crowell!  The painting is acrylic on wood.  It is available for purchase!

Karen and Mac Willis and Jenna and Al Williams are truly an inspiration for all they have done for the Boys and Girls Clubs of Coastal Carolina!  It is all about tomorrow's future and the future begins with our kids!
I learn something new every year about putting on a fundraising event from our "Barta" girl above, Cynthia Barber!  She does so much behind the scenes it is truly incredible!  As we move into the next event, I hope Cynthia has time to rest before the Barta Boys and Girls Clubs Billfish Tournament this week!

Life, Liberty and the pursuit of Happiness

Today one of the best reenactments of what the fight for our freedom during the American Revolution was like is the movie, The Patriot.  I cannot watch this movie or even this clip without being truly humbled and brought to tears.  I am eternally grateful to the men who fought the original "first for freedom" in order for future generations to live as citizens of these United States.  In God we Trust.  This is a video containing clips from the the American Revolutionary war film, The Patriot, starring Mel Gibson and Heath Ledger. The Music is Hallelujah, the version by Jeff Buckley.
We hold these truths to be self-evident, that all men are created equal, that they are endowed by their Creator with certain unalienable Rights, that among these are Life, Liberty and the pursuit of Happiness. ~
 Declaration of Independence.
"John Locke, in his 1689 "A Letter Concerning Toleration," wrote that "Civil interest I call life, liberty, health, and indolency of body; and the possession of outward things..." Locke wrote in his 1693 Essay Concerning Human Understanding that "the highest perfection of intellectual nature lies in a careful and constant pursuit of true and solid happiness."  Locke never associated natural right with happiness."

Historic Halifax is a great place to visit! Listed by Road Trips for Families as one of the Best 4th of July Hometown Celebrations and Trips in the USA!  I highly recommend the play First for Freedom since 1976 by Maxville Burt Williams.  As a child, I had the great pleasure participating in the production as Josie Hamilton.  It was a wonderful experience!  Although the role as Josie and the lead role as the Little Red Hen in kindergarten, did not create a child star, I developed a great appreciation for our history!

Flags and Fireworks!

Everyone is preparing to celebrate as we join neighbors, family and friends putting up Independence Day decorations!  There is nothing more beautiful to this Carolina girl than the American Flag flying over a Carolina beach! I also enjoy all the stores and bakeries that help us celebrate BIG!  My most favorite presentation for July 4th goodies I have seen thus far are from Alex & Brett Bakery!  I just had to share their facebook photos!  Make sure you like their page so you too can keep up with their creations!
I am also a fan of their NC cookies as well as the cocktail napkins I found in a little store in Goldsboro!
Every year the Atlantic Beach fireworks grow and everyone gets more creative during the parade on our street! 
USA, Let the celebration begin!!!
