Coastal Santa!

Friday night boiled Shrimp from the NC coast is a regular thing for us!  This time of year we love using our Cuthbertson china!  Mears Etc Etc has sold the original Christmas china for many years!  It is such a great collectible!   Makes even the most simple dinner festive!
Fresh shrimp and Christmas presents made me think of the vacationing Clothtique Santa's!  The Possible Dreams Santa's are another collectible at Mears!  They are fun and full of personality like our favorite beach life ornaments!
I am sure Santa dreams about our North Carolina beaches after all his hard work during this busy season !  I love this pillow and bet Santa does too, "When what to my wondering eyes should appear but a bottle of wine and a six-pack of beer!"  Time to celebrate!

Honey and Homecooking!

There is nothing better this time of year than nights at home by a warm fire and the glow from a Christmas tree loaded with lights!  I love cooking with my family! One of our new favorite ingredient  is local cream honey made with cinnamon!  It is wonderful with NC sweet potatoes and carrots!  Gardenbees has the best honey for your holiday guest!  It is sweet and good for you!  It is also wonderful in coffee!
Sometimes we pull out the cast iron for some not so healthy old favorites like country style steak!  My Grandmother would be proud!  We enjoyed a great visit at Elias Butcher Shop for a few of their specialties and our friend, Artie gave us a new recipe for the most tender cube steak!  The key is Moss Chicken Breader from NC's Buffaloe Milling Company since 1854!
Batter the steak in breader.
Pan fry the cube steak.
Once the steak is browned layer with onion.
Make the gravy, pour it over the layers.
Bake for one hour at 275 degrees.
Perfect for hungry hunters!
With all the frying going on in the kitchen, I decided to steam some cabbage and cook a pot of my special homemade veggie soup!  It came in handy for the family members hit with flu symptoms!  I believe the soup has healing powers!  Everyone is full, warm and well now!

December Finds Before!

I am super excited about the chairs below!  We are in the process of building the backs and seat cushions!  They are going to be beautiful!  The photos below are all new purchases that have big plans!  I usually do not post the before but I hope you will enjoy the after as much as I do!
The seats and upholstered cushions will be complete on the bamboo set below!
I have not decided what I am doing with the tables and the turquoise chair!
I love how this chair turned out!

Holiday & Hunting Season!

During duck and deer season, just to name a few,  Halifax County grows by leaps and bounds!  Farm visits and hunting club populations increase as people come out of the woodwork!  We like to shop at EJW in Morehead City for everything we need for anything outdoors!
Coming from a family of men who I think truly believe they are still hunting and gathering like the pilgrims, EJW makes shopping easy! EJW is worth the trip no matter where you are!
Even Santa loves duck hunting!
We have lots of fun gifts at Mears Etc Etc for your sportsman and the farm!
Love these cups! They say "Beer, Bait and Ammo" on the back!
and yes they do!!
Hang up bags, coolers and camo everything!
Fun for the farm or your favorite Southerner! Moonshine anyone?!

SSCS Finds and Refurbishment!

It is always fun to see a forgotten piece given new life!  I love the before and after pics of upholstered furniture as much as I love the chairs below that are a blank canvas waiting for the right fabric, paint or stain!  Each chair comes from the darkest forgotten corner only to become a new front and center favorite!

Enfield and Antiques!

Fall for Enfield was a huge success!  It was so fun to see old and new friends throughout town!  Here are a few pics from Rowe-Drum as well as the antique chair display enjoyed by all!
For all the true Tarheels!  Antique chests were given to each team member of the 1982 team.  This chest was James Worthy's!  The signatures inside and the history is really cool even for a State fan! A fun treasure for a real fan!
The Antique chair's are from Northeastern North Carolina!
Halifax County
 Child's Chair from Edenton NC
 Warrenton NC
Southern Pine blanket chest, Nash County Circa 1830!

BGCCC, BE Grateful!

My husband and I are so blessed to be among those who believe in The Boys and Girls Clubs of Coastal Carolina!  It is such a wonderful organization operated by people who truly care about the kids!  Yesterday we had the honor, with the "Godmother" Karen Willis of co hosting the Business Leaders and Influentials Luncheon for those who supported the BGCCC through 2011!
They were Beaufort Woman's Club, Boathouse at Front Street Village, Carteret Home Builders Association, St. Francis by the Sea Episcopal Church, C.L. King, Punch list Maintenance, Carteret Chamber of Commerce "Leadership Carteret Class of 2011" and ViaMark Advertising!  Most had seconds of my husbands "famous" chili!  It was no surprise this group who constantly stick their necks out for others chose the pot of "Hot and Spicy"!  Such an honor to see the generosity and appreciation in the room!
Lots of jalapenos!!
Perfect for the now "chilly" December Carolina days!!
